Brand New!

On a lighter note (see previous post) I had the honor of photographing this beautiful newborn (5 weeks old) and her big brother.

Daunting

Well, as some of you know, I have been working frantically on the 2008 Aberdeen's Outskirts calendar and this year has been a bit more difficult. I really only get to go out hunting for beautiful scenics a couple times a week in the evenings and even though I know where I would like to go to photograph a colorful sunset or an old barn the spring flood waters have left me with relatively few travel options. Many of the images in last year's calendar were acquired by driving far enough down a nearly abandoned road which is pretty safe in a drought. Now, all of those roads and many more like them are flooded, closed, and yes, even collapsed.

Sprinkler Fun

You can never really recapture the true joy of childhood until you witness that same joy in your own children.

Reflected Sunset

Never leave your camera at home, there is always something to take a picture of.

Where the Wind and Wild Things Were

I did a portrait shoot at Storybook Land on Memorial Day and it was possibly the windiest day of the year. We had a good time anyway, except for getting chased out of flower planter by a wild turkey.

Another Not Mine

It's tribute Friday and it's time to post a photo that someone else took that I just Love. Here is my lovely wife's capture of our daughter being calm and quiet. If you know her, you know how rare a picture like this is.

Ladies and Gentlemen ...

The Mighty Talan! This little guy, despite not having a nap, was a genuine joy to photograph. He was in a good mood and moving around so I was kept on my toes. These are some of my favorites.

Reflections

We (me and my wife) just got back from Colorado last week and this is one of my favorite pictures from the trip. Taken outside the Stanley Hotel, you know, the place that inspired "The Shining" Nice hotel, not nearly as creepy as I'd imagined.

Tribute

Whenever I sort through my saved picture files I always come across pictures that I love that friends and family have taken. So, each Friday I am going to try to remember to post a photo that I just love that someone else has taken.

My first tribute photo was taken by my life-long pal, confidant and fellow photo deviant. This wonderful shot was of our respective daughters in a time of kitty crisis. Love it!

What happens ...

... when you give a one year old boy a plate of spaghetti? Well, take a look and see for yourself.

He will not only make an incredible mess, but he will be darn proud of it too.

The Lovely Livia...

This little doll turned 9 months old last month and I had the privilege of capturing some great images. These are some of my favorites. More may follow, I can't decide which ones I like the most!

Candid Accident

Sitting in my favorite coffee house and playing with some different settings on the camera and I accidentally snapped this candid shot of one of the wonderful employees that cater to my caffeine addiction. If only all my accidents turned out so well.

Spent

After three days of crying and screaming he just couldn't hold it together long enough to finish those last three pieces of toast.

Spring

The first day of spring holds wonders of all kinds for one who has never witnessed them before. We should all appreciate these simple joys as a small child does. The world would be a better place for it.

Poor Boy's Supper

My lovely wife is listing off potential meals and they all seem good choices but nothing new and exciting. Until she comes to this gem, affectionately called "Mashed Potato Pups". Composed of Instant mashed potatoes, shredded cheese, a hot dog split down the middle, and topped with some corn. I immediately jump on this meal choice and wife, of course, thinks I'm kidding. Not so much. What a tasty treat this turned out to be. The kids liked it too.

The birds are back...

This is my therapy. Bad day, go take some pictures of birds. Right now there are flocks of Cedar Waxwings fluttering about Aberdeen just begging to be photographed. Spring is good.

Making Do ...

Being a landscape photographer in Aberdeen, SD (the flattest land on Earth) you sometimes have to improvise. Where some would travel the globe to locate the perfect mountain reflected in the perfect lake, I will happily record the image of a giant snow heap reflected in the melting ice of a mall parking lot. But that's just me.

More Snow

It's never going to quit snowing. I'm sure of it. Never.

Saturday, In the Park ...

... it's certainly not the 4th of July.

No Escape

Not sure what I'm going to use this for yet but I know there has to be something I can do with it.

Candle Lit

A "Painting With Light" experiment that I think turned out rather well. A stationary subject photographed with three separate light sources.

Backlit

I was scanning some old files and found this shot. I went out the day before Christmas and took some pictures and this was one of them. I really like pictures of leaf-less trees. Not sure why.

Nephew

This was one of my favorites from the shoot with my nephew.

Future Packer?

I just finished a photo shoot with my nephew and we had no shortage of props used throughout.
